  • Mid-Week Report : Week 127

Quick summary of yesterday (Tuesday, 29 September)

    Calories : 1944.

Exercise : 45 mins bike ride.

I am still exceeding my daily calories budget of 1700 kCals I set myself by some 10-15% which is irritating me but I only have myself - and possibly exercise level - to blame. Just as well it is not worse or it would not be worth bothering. Still, one pound a week weight loss is not bad really by my wobbly standards.

Bearing in mind that my weight-loss efforts are to improve health and increase longevity, I filled in one of those 'how long will you live?' questionnaires on the internet yesterday, just out of idle (morbid ?) curiosity. I did it as honestly as possible - nobody was looking ! Result : 89, with a range of 82-96.

This was a pleasant surprise as I had expected about 76 or so. So that would give me another 25 years. Excellent ! Or is it ? If I turn the clock back 25 years it would be 1984. The children were already with us growing up and, well, put like that it all seems uncomfortably recent. On the other hand, 89 probably does not thrill my pension provider either.

Face it Chris, you are now elderly ! Yes, I suppose you are correct. 8|

Off out for a run this morning to kid myself otherwise.

Edit : Wednesday evening. Repeated questionnaire with weight of 170 lbs (ie 20 lighter than currently). Makes not one day of difference for longevity ! If this be correct, why the hell am I bothering, eh ? A right swizz. Also found that by increasing amount of sleep by one hour a day (night) it gives me about 3 months increased life span. Trouble is it means I have to spend about an extra year, in total, asleep to achieve this ! Is that how people die in their sleep, perhaps ... ?

  • Daily Report : Day 3 Week 127

Review of yesterday (Monday, 28 September) :

Calories : 1929. Small dollop of icecream with fruit salad was the only significant naughty. Just fancied it.

Exercise : 60 mins running, the effects of which are still with me this morning.

  • Daily Report : Day 2 Week 127

Summary of yesterday (Sunday, 27 September 2009) :

    Calories : 1869.

Exercise : 45 mins on bike.

Edit : 1400 BST Monday to add my weight now 190 lbs. That is 1lb lost on the week, yielding BMI of 26.6. Just got to keep it going.

  • Daily Report : Day 1 Week 127

Oops. Forgot to do the 'weekly report' yesterday :

    Summary of Friday, 25 September 2009 :

    Calories : 1891. Feeling I have forgotten something ...

Exercise : 45 mins on bike. Calf strain from inaugural gym class niggled but I ignored it. Got a blasted puncture but fixed it within 20 mins (nigh record). First I have had for quite some time.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Summary of Saturday 26 September :

Calories : 1926. I really should not have had a Mars Bar, of all things, at the football match in Windsor. But I kept my portion of the Indian takeaway family meal to a fairly meagre helping.

Exercise : 30+ mins running with Mrs CITF.

Overall the week has been better than I expected but not quite as good as I had hoped. Sound familiar ? Couple of domestic matters queered things up a bit but broadly stuck loosely to chosen parameters. Forgot to weigh myself yesterday and now clothed anyway. You will just have to be patient.

So onward and downward I suppose. Foreign trip on horizon late-October but otherwise I have no known disruptions looming to break feeble concentration.

Back tomorrow with weight parameters .. if I remember, that is.

  • Daily Report : Day 6 Week 126

Summary of yesterday (Thursday 24 September) :

Calories : 1938. Caved in to a Penguin biscuit after gym class. Gym class ?

Exercise : 25 mins on bike to get to said gym class (traffic terrible - but then it's the south-east).

Class is remedial exercises at local hospital physiotherapy department for dodgy knee which is still giving me gyp 9 months on. So 45 mins relentless activity on various torture devices with an alarm going every 3 mins so we all change exercise. Looking at some of the other participants, I appeared least afflicted but by far the oldest. I am getting used to this last descriptor wherever I go.

  • Daily Report : Day 5 Week 126

    Yesterday's confessions (Wednesday 23 September) :

Calories : 1944. Not cheese on toast this time; macaroni cheese in stead !

Exercise : 45 mins on bike.

  • Mid-Week Report : Week 126

Summary of yesterday (Tues 22 Sept) first :

Calories : 1985. I never learn : cheese on toast again. But I was right hungry after ...

Exercise : 60+ mins running, which I can certainly still feel in my legs this morning.

Spirit willing, flesh weak but I persevere. Not too dismayed really. I suppose it is almost inevitable that I will munch rather more when I turn up the dial on exercise intensity, which I have. Just got to keep it going and stay occupied. Goodness knows, there are plenty of things needing doing round here. But they are easily ignored; difficult to break the habit of a lifetime.

Well, I am supposed to be off out on my bike this morning. Weather perfect for it but, you know, going back to bed is really tempting ! I only got up to make Mrs CITF a cup of tea before she dashes off to work. Work : ahh, those were the days ...

  • Daily Report : Day 3 Week 126

Summary of yesterday (Monday, 21 September) :

    Calories : 1966. Cheese on toast : not exactly a low-calorie choice, but ...

Exercise : 90 mins on bike. So not too bad really.

  • Daily Report : Day 2 Week 126

Quick summary of yesterday (Sunday 20 September 2009) :

Calories : 1874. Finished loaf of bread off. Should have left it for morning. Leftovers : frequently my undoing.

Exercise : Only 30 mins on bike, due to engineering mishap with Mrs CITF's bike who accompanied me. Got right mucky oily hands to extricate her from trouble.

  • Daily Report : Day 1 Week 126

    Summary of Saturday, 19 September 2009 :

Calories : 2148. Way over top due largely to takeaway (fish and chips) evening meal. And this single portion of f&c was actually shared between myself and Mrs CITF ! However :

Exercise : 30+ mins running to redress balance somewhat.

  • Weekly Report : End of Week 125 (19 Sept 2009)

    Hi folks !

Quick summary : Weight 191 lbs, yielding a BMI of 26.7 which is still in the overweight category. So a pleasing, though not huge, loss of one pound over the week. I can live with that, repeated for another 30 times to reach my target of 161 lbs.

On the whole, I have been quite pleased with the way the week progressed. Not too many temptations fallen for when hungry and on the exercise front I thought I did quite well. The trick of course is to continue to repeat without sliding backwards and it starts now !

Cautiously, I will say that things are looking up.

    ChrisITF

PS anyone know what happened to Chubsy ? Her blog and profile have disappeared.

  • Daily Report Day 6 Week 125

Summary of yesterday (Thursday 17 September) :

    Calories : 1990.

Exercise : 90 mins long walk.

Not such a good day. Unsure why. Penguin biscuit and a yogurt were my calorific undoing.

    ChrisITF

  • Daily Report : Day 5 Week 125

Summary of yesterday (Wednesday, 16 September) :

    Calories : 1875.

Exercise : 110 mins on bike.

That longer ride made me ravenous, so busting the budget of 1700 cals not surprising .. or naughty really.

    ChrisITF

  • Mid-Week Report : Week 125

    Summary of yesterday first :

    Calories : 1766.

    Exercise : 30+ mins running.

Quite pleased overall. Not really slipped up in three days, apart from a naughty Penguin biscuit after my run. Why not one of the many small Cox's apples, eh ? Answer : easier, I suppose. Anyway I shall be sick of apple shortly as our tree is drooping under the weight of rosy cooking apples in the garden as it does every year. So, more of the same please and see what the effect on the scales is come Saturday.

  • Daily Report : Day 3 Week 125

    Still firmly under control :

Calories : 2006. Broke budget, but see exercise ..

Exercise : 90 mins on bike.

I am allowed more if I do more. Just thought that one up !

    ChrisITF

  • Daily Report : Day 2 Week 125

Well, still on the wagon after 24hrs ..

    Calories : 1678 (Budget 1700/day, once again)

Exercise : 45 mins on bike

  • Gosh is That the Time ?

I really don't know why am bothering. I really don't. But I admit that the spur was an email from the blog company admonishing me (as I saw it) for not logging on for some 90 days now. I had thought it was much longer than that ...

Anyway, how are you all ? Well, I hope.

For myself, things have not been so good. No deaths or bankruptcy or anything like that, but the raison d'etre of this blog remains .. and with added value. Put another way, I have yo-yoed back up in weight. I really never thought I would but, there, I have admitted it. Publicly. There have been one or two well-meaning souls that have said I look much better for the added veneer of subcutaneous fat but I beg to differ and it has upset my athletic performance, such as it was, summat rotten. I can scarcely keep ahead of Mrs CITF now ...

So what is the cumulative damage ? Well, I have just descended from the bathroom where a very rare testing of the bathroom scales reveals 192 lbs. Gasp .. horror .. shame. This is a full 10lbs worse than my last blog entry (see below) and 22 lbs worse than last November or so. Too painful to check precision on this last one. It's a lot anyway. BMI now back into 'overweight' at 26.9. Buggah.

How has this come about ? Are you serious ? It's simple : eaten more than I needed. Period. The underlying reasons are definitely more complex and I am unsure what they are. One of life's mysteries I suppose.

Sooooo, it worked before and I see no obvious reason why it should not work again if I tell the world on a daily basis the triumphs and disasters of nutrition and exercise. The tyranny of public disapproval has worked in the past. I therefore need your help.

    Start weight : 192 lbs

Target weight : 161 lbs (BMI 22.5 and mid-way between underweight and overweight)

But I am not going to put a date on it. Oh no. A noose for the inexperienced slimmer that.

My revised spreadsheet is waiting for entries. I just need to eat, drink and run around in circles.

    Here goes again ...
